Problem

Excessive wear on existing rubber skirting is becoming costly to continuously replace. Increased friction of rubber compared to polyurethane is leading to drag on the conveyor motor.
Background: A successful mobile equipment manufacturer utilizes a conveyor to transfer product from a mobile hopper to on-site placement.
Problem: The use of rubber skirting failed after a short time and also wore grooves into the conveyor belt. Changing the skirting on the mobile unit is labour intensive and takes the unit out of service for a full day.
Solution: Plastruct Polyzone pre-machined polyurethane strips with fastener holes to fit into the existing equipment parameters.
Result: After the Polyurethane side skirting strips were installed the conveyor unloading system ran smoothly. The seal created between the Polyurethane and the conveyor belt was much improved and resulted in less wear on the belt. After 4 years of operation, the polyurethane skirting strips have saved significant labour and production costs, as well as lengthened the life of the belt. The OEM now strictly uses polyurethane for this application.
